PHOENIX – Authorities believe a man shot his girlfriend before taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide in southwest Phoenix on Sunday.

What police are saying about apparent murder-suicide in Phoenix

Officers responded to a shooting call at a home near 83rd Avenue and Broadway Road around 8:15 a.m. on Monday, more than 24 hours after when the incident was believed to have occurred.

Officers entered the home and found a man and a woman dead.

The woman was identified as 41-year-old Daisy Ruiz.

After an initial investigation, detectives believe the man shot and killed Ruiz and then shot and killed himself.

Authorities said Ruiz’s relatives went to the home after she was not seen or heard from.

Police are waiting to notify next of kin before releasing the name of the man.

The investigation is ongoing.
