Apache Junction police safely seize explosives after crisis situation

PHOENIX — Officers with the Apache Junction Police Department safely seized explosives after responding to a crisis situation on Wednesday, authorities said.

According to Apache Junction police, officers responded to an Axiom Care, located near Delaware Drive and Apache Trail, for reports of a person in crisis.

When police arrived on scene, they built a rapport with the individual as well as provided reassurance and support in order to deescalate the situation. The individual admitted in their conversation to having dynamite in their vehicle, police said.

This prompted officers to request assistance from the Mesa Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit to assess and handle the explosives.

After a comprehensive investigation, Mesa police’s EOD located and safely seized the explosives.

According to Apache Junction police, the individual was connected with mental health services and taken to a crisis healthcare facility.

No injuries were reported from the incident and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
