Apache County board appoints Blackwater-Nygren to Arizona House

PHOENIX – The Arizona House will welcome a new face soon after Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren was appointed Tuesday to fill the spot vacated by a White House administration appointee.

The Apache County Board of Supervisors named Blackwater-Nygren, 25, to the seat that had been held by former Rep. Arlando Teller during a special meeting.

“Ahe’hee’ to everyone who has supported my appointment to this position. I am humbled to be your Arizona House of Representative. I look forward to working with the people of LD7,” Blackwater-Nygren, who is a member of the Navajo Nation, said a press release.

The Democrat is expected to be sworn in later this week.

“We were thrilled to learn of the appointment of Jasmine Blackwater-Nygren,” the Arizona Democratic Party said in a press release Wednesday.

Blackwater graduated from Stanford, completed her law degree at Arizona State University and recently passed the state bar exam, according to a press release from the Navajo Nation.

Teller resigned Jan. 31 to accept a post with Department of Transportation.
