Arizona Republican says Senate version of ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ has ‘some amazingly bad stuff’

PHOENIX – U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Arizona) doesn’t think the House will pass President Donald Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill” in its current form.

“There’s some really, really good stuff, and there’s not so good stuff,” Biggs told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s The Mike Broomhead Show on Tuesday.

However, he thinks there is too much of the “not so good stuff” to approve it without more changes.

“It’s hard for me to conceive that it’ll pass as is. There’s some amazingly bad stuff in here,” he said.

What Rep. Andy Biggs dislike about ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

The East Valley congressman and Arizona gubernatorial candidate said he has problems with multiple elements of the legislation, including the fact that it is projected to increase the deficit by $600 billion.

Biggs also has concerns about New Green Deal and Planned Parenthood funding as well as “illegal aliens still getting access to Medicaid.”

The House introduced and passed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act in May, and the Senate approved an amended version Monday after a marathon voting session.

“It’s a hodgepodge of stuff and I’m actually trying to sort through the amendments that came through in the vote-a-rama,” he said. “So, I’m talking to colleagues and I don’t know anybody who’s happy on the House side.”

Why Republicans have a sense of urgency

Biggs believes President Donald Trump’s priority legislation is three or four months behind schedule. However, he said Republicans have a sense of urgency to pass it, in part because tax cuts and extensions are “critical to the economy.”

“I think that’s why it passed out of the House the first time around, quite frankly, because there was still some stuff in there that wasn’t so hot,” Biggs said.

Still, the East Valley Republican said he’d prefer to return to the version previously approved by the House.

“If they would have just done the House bill, I think they would have gotten, eventually, every one of the senators on board, too,” Biggs said.
