More affordable housing slated for Tempe at Apache Corridor

PHOENIX — In 2006, the city of Tempe first bought the land, but affordable housing will be making its long-awaited arrival at the Apache Corridor next winter.
La Victoria Commons, which will sit on the northeast corner of Apache Boulevard and the Price-101 Freeway, will offer 104 rental units priced for those who fall in the low-income category. Monthly payments were not specified, but household incomes ranging from $31,200 to $62,400 will be able to afford these units, according to a press release.
“We know that a vibrant, healthy community depends on a diverse mix of housing,” Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said in the release. “La Victoria Commons brings much-needed affordable rental and homeownership opportunities as well as great community amenities like a health clinic. We’re so excited to welcome more families, young professionals, older adults, new ASU graduates and others to this new development.”
What will the Tempe affordable housing community offer residents?
La Victoria Commons will present one-, two- and three-bedroom units and 19 townhomes, which will sit on the north side of the space along McArthur Drive, will be available for eligible buyers.
One notable feature on the new property is a health clinic, which will be open for those in and outside the rental space, community room and coffee shop.
This latest housing project, one of five in the works for Tempe, officially got underway with a groundbreaking ceremony in early December. Community members joined co-developers Copa Health and Newtown CDC — both Valley-based community solution agencies — for the start of construction.
Located across the way from the Apache Boulevard/Price-101 Freeway Valley Metro light rail station, the 2.6-acre housing property will provide the convenience of public transit to hundreds of incoming residents.
Construction was estimated to be done by the end of 2025.
