Adrian Fontes wins Democratic nomination for Arizona Secretary of State

PHOENIX — Adrian Fontes will be the Democratic nominee for the Arizona Secretary of State race after winning the primary.

Fontes topped opponent Reginald Bolding, the state House minority leader, and the race was called Thursday night, according to The Associated Press.

Results showed Fontes capturing 52.68% of the vote with 276,436 votes as opposed to Bolding’s 248,271 as of Thursday night’s results drop.

Fontes is hoping to be the state’s next election chief after serving as the Maricopa County Recorder from 2016 to 2020, losing the seat to Republican Stephen Richer.

He is aiming to take the place of fellow Democrat Katie Hobbs, who is running for governor.

Fontes will take on Republican nominee Mark Finchem, who is backed by former President Donald Trump and won the party’s nomination.

In an interview with KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Gaydos and Chad Show before the primary, Fontes said he wants to restore confidence in elections.

He promised to attack the issue head-on by cutting the drama and fighting misinformation.

Fontes said his mission is to make sure Arizona has free and fair elections and that people can have faith that he will be fair to both political parties.
