PHOENIX — Want to name a snowplow? The Arizona Department of Transportation’s Name-A-Snowplow Contest is now open.
Arizonans can enter by submitting creative names online for four of ADOT’s snowplows through Monday.
“When winter storms are at their worst, ADOT’s snowplow operators are working to clear highways of ice and snow, helping keep travelers safer and communities connected,” ADOT Director Jennifer Toth said in press release Tuesday. “This contest is a fun way to remind the public of the important work that snowplow operators do and offer winter driving tips for motorists so everyone can get home safely.”
There’s no limit to how many names participants can submit for the contest, and you can include your email address in the form so ADOT can contact you if your snowplow name ends up winning.
All of the submissions will be reviewed, and ADOT will select 12 to 15 finalists, which will then be voted on by the public.
The four names that receive the most votes will be placed with a decal on the snowplow.
Last year, there were 2,100 names submitted and more than 14,000 votes cast in the contest. The winners were CTRL + SALT + DELETE, Blizzard of Oz, Scoop Dog, Darth Blader, Plowasaurus Rex and Sleetwood Mac.
ADOT’s safety tips around snowplows
While ADOT’s Name-A-Snowplow Contest is a fun way to engage the community, it’s also an opportunity to help Arizonans stay safe in the winter weather.
In the 2024-25 winter season, 200 ADOT snowplows covered more than 615,000 miles on state highways. ADOT has 400 snowplow operators standing by to respond whenever snowstorms hit the state.
To stay safe on the roads, never attempt to pass a snowplow, stay at least four car lengths behind snowplows and equipment and slow down to give the snowplow extra room.
