Scoop, there it is! ADOT releases winners of name-a-snowplow contest

After more than 14,000 votes were tallied, ADOT has released its winners for the 2025 name-a-snowplow contest.

PHOENIX — Last year we were given “Scoopacabra” and “Snowbi-Wan Kenobi” and this year we have “Plowasaurus Rex” and “Darth Blader” joining the ranks of Arizona snowplows.

More than 14,000 votes were tallied in the Arizona Department of Transportation’s third name-a-snowplow Contest. ADOT announced the six winners on Wednesday.

Voters also gave the nod to “CTRL + SALT + DELETE,” “Blizzard of Oz,” “Scoop Dog” and “Sleetwood Mac” over nine other finalists.

“Darth Blader” and “CTRL + SALT + DELETE” are stationed at a maintenance yard in Flagstaff and “Blizzard of Oz” and “Sleetwood Mac” are in Williams. “Scoop Dog” is in Payson and “Plowasaurus Rex” will patrol highways near Globe.

The six winners were plowed down by ADOT officials from 2,100 names submitted in the first phase in January. Those were whittled down to 15 finalists that the public voted on.

Sixteen people entered variations of “CTRL + SALT + DELETE” and “Scoop Dog” was submitted 46 times.

Previous winning names in ADOT’s snowplow contests

The six winners for this year’s contest join previous winners “Snowbi-Wan Kenobi,” “Fast and Flurryous” and “Scoopacabra” from the 2023 contest and “Alice Scooper,” “Snowguaro” and “Frost Responder” from the inaugural contest in 2022.
