88-year-old woman dies after getting hit by vehicle on 16th Street in Phoenix

PHOENIX – An 88-year-old woman died after getting hit by a vehicle in Phoenix on Sunday morning, authorities said.

Officers responded to the scene on 16th Street south of Northern Avenue around 9:45 a.m. and found Sheila Hipps suffering from serious injuries, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The pedestrian was crossing 16th Street near Morten Avenue when she was hit. She died after being taken to a hospital.

The driver, who stayed on the scene, showed no signs of intoxication, police said.

“Criminal charging will not be determined until all information is learned and the investigation has been completed,” Sgt. Brian Bower said in a media advisory.
