PHOENIX – Authorities said Tuesday the armed suspect killed by police in north Phoenix over the weekend was a 75-year-old man.

An officer fatally shot Michael Frank Breuer on Sunday morning after responding to a call about a man carrying a gun, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The deadly shooting occurred around 11:30 a.m. in a neighborhood near Seventh Avenue and Yukon Drive, just north of the Loop 101 Pima Freeway.

A responding officer searched the area and found Breuer armed with a handgun.

What happened before officer shot 75-year-old man in Phoenix?

The suspect allegedly refused to comply with commands.

“The man advanced in the direction of the officer and raised his handgun. This is when the officer-involved shooting occurred,” Sgt. Robert Scherer said in a media advisory.

Breuer was taken to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Major Incident Division is overseeing the investigation into the shooting.
