Man booked on domestic violence charges after barricading himself in Scottsdale home

PHOENIX — A man was arrested in Scottsdale on Saturday afternoon after he barricaded himself inside of a home, authorities said.

According to the Scottsdale Police Department, officers and tactical units responded to a barricade call from a woman at a home near Scottsdale and McDowell roads around 11 a.m.

Police said the man, later identified as 54-year-old Andrew Shadid, was booked on several domestic violence-related crimes. Those included aggravated assault, violating a protective order, aggravated domestic violence, resisting arrest, assault, criminal damage and disorderly conduct.

Scottsdale PD spokesperson Aaron Bolin said Shadid had forced his way into the unidentified woman’s home and threatened to “ignite the home on fire” with gasoline he allegedly poured out inside and kill the woman and himself if police arrived to the residence.

The woman had already been physically assaulted, according to her barricade call, but safely escaped from the house before police showed up.

According to Bolin, police were using negotiators and directing announcements toward the house for more than an hour before the Scottsdale SWAT team took Shadid into custody. The barricade itself lasted “about four hours,” Bolin said.

The spokesperson also said Shadid “never communicated back” to the SWAT team when called upon and told them he was armed.

Bolin added that Shadid was not permitted in the residence due to “an existing court order.”

Nearby residences were evacuated and roads into the neighborhood were blocked as a result of Shadid’s actions. Bolin said that officers were still clearing the house and working to “restore peace” to the surrounding area at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday.
