PHOENIX — It’s still not time to break out the heavy jackets in the Valley.

Phoenix hit 85 degrees at about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, breaking the daily heat record of 83 degrees set in 1949, according to the National Weather Service.

The record heat on the first day of December was the continuation of an unusually warm stretch of weather that spanned almost the entire month of November.

Phoenix had high temperatures in the 80s on 25 days in November, breaking a monthly record that was also set in 1949.

The city saw 80-plus degree weather for the first 22 days of the month, topping out at 91 degrees on Nov. 5.

Warm weather is expected to continue into the weekend and into winter, which officially starts Dec. 21.

Thursday’s high is forecasted to be 82 degrees before a slight dip to 79 degrees on Friday and 78 degrees on Saturday before another expected 80-degree day on Sunday.

Forecasters have said Phoenix would likely have the unusually balmy winter temperatures, pointing to La Nina bringing drier, warmer conditions.
