70-year-old man riding in back of minivan killed in crash in Glendale

A 70-year-old man died after a collision in Glendale on Sunday evening, authorities said.

PHOENIX – A 70-year-old man died after a collision in Glendale on Sunday evening, authorities said.

Jose Ortiz Reyes was riding in the back of a Chrysler Voyager van his daughter was driving at the intersection of 51st and Glendale avenues around 6 p.m., according to the Glendale Police Department.

His daughter was making a left-hand turn to travel south from Glendale Avenue onto 51st Avenue prior to the crash, police said.

The collision occurred when a Dodge pick-up traveling eastbound in the first lane on Glendale Avenue struck the van mid-turn, T-boning the vehicle.

Reyes died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police are still investigating the incident as of 5 p.m. Monday and have not determined who was at fault.

After the collision, both vehicles collided with a stopped Toyota Tundra and a stopped van carrying a patient who was being transported. Both vehicles were stopped on the northbound lanes of 51st Avenue.

No other significant injuries were reported as a result of the collision, police said.
