2-year-old child dies after apparent drowning in Gilbert pool

A 2-year-old child drowned Sunday evening in a pool in Gilbert after police's life-saving efforts were unsuccessful, authorities said.

A 2-year-old child died Sunday evening after an apparent drowning in a pool in Gilbert, authorities said.

Officers responded to a call about a potential drowning near Elliott and Higley roads just after 5:30 p.m. to find a child unresponsive in the pool, according to the Gilbert Police Department.

Police immediately attempted life-saving efforts, and Gilbert Fire and Rescue transported the child to a hospital, where he later died.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation by the Gilbert Police detectives. No other details are available at this time.

Police initially reported the child’s age as 1 but issued a correction on Monday.
