2-year-old boy expected to survive after being pulled from backyard pool in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A 2-year-old boy is expected to survive after being pulled from a backyard pool in Phoenix on Monday evening, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Fire Department, the boy was initially taken to the hospital in “extremely critical condition” after crews were called to a home near 15th and Maryland avenues for reports of a drowning around 6:45 p.m.

However, the Phoenix Police Department said as of 9:30 p.m. his injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.

The boy was found in the backyard pool unconscious after being in the water for an unknown amount of time, fire officials said.

ABC15 reported the boy was breathing on his own when he was taken to the hospital.
