2 teens accused of stealing 12-year-old boy’s e-bike at gunpoint in Gilbert

PHOENIX — Two teens have been charged with robbing a 12-year-old boy of his e-bike at gunpoint last month in Gilbert, officials announced.

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office identified one of the teens as 18-year-old Dyllin Keys and the other as a 14-year-old boy.

Keys was indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated robbery, misconduct involving weapons and unlawful acts involving liquor. Keys’ bond was set at $50,000 and his trial is scheduled for June 2026.

Meanwhile, the 14-year-old was charged with one count of aggravated robbery.

What led to the teens being charged with stealing an e-bike in Gilbert?

On Feb. 6, the two teens stopped the 12-year-old boy as he was riding his e-bike near Greenfield and Elliot roads, east of Greenfield Junior High.

The boy called police around 8:45 p.m. and told them that someone pulled a gun on him and stole his bike, according to footage released by the Gilbert Police Department.

Prosecutors said Keys allegedly threatened to shoot the boy if he didn’t give him his bike.

Police said within minutes officers located Keys, who was in possession of the e-bike and handgun.

The 14-year-old, who was allegedly seen fleeing the scene, was taken into custody and booked into Durango Juvenile Detention Center on Feb. 17, after being identified through coordination between officers, detectives and school resource officers.
