Police investigating after 2 people found dead from gunshot wounds in Yuma house fire

PHOENIX — Two people were found dead as a result of gunshot wounds inside of a burning house in Yuma on Saturday, authorities said.

The Yuma Police Department and the Yuma Fire Department responded to reports of a residential fire in the area of 16th Street and 10th Avenue around 11:25 p.m.

First responders pulled the bodies of Dustin Trease, 32, and Leticia Villareal, 31, from the burning house, according to police.

Details on house fire and how the people were found dead

Arriving crews found heavy smoke coming from multiple parts of the home.

Two groups of firefighters entered the burning house and extricated Trease and Villareal, both of whom were pronounced dead on the scene.

The fire was then upgraded to a second alarm by a battalion chief and more resources were called to the scene.

Crews reentered the home to search for any remaining occupants and continuing firefighting efforts.

Firefighters exited the home after completing the search due to the severity of the fire.

Crews prevented the fire from spreading to any nearby buildings.

The home appeared to be clear and no one else was found inside.

The Yuma Police Department’s Investigation Unit took over the investigation.

It was determined that both individuals died from gunshot wounds and that the fire was caused by arson.

This is an ongoing investigation.
