PHOENIX — Two people are dead, and one other was hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash in west Phoenix on Sunday morning.

The Phoenix Fire Department responded to the collision near 57th Avenue and Indian School Road around 6 a.m., authorities said.

Three people were evaluated at the scene, and extrication was needed, crews said.

One woman, later identified as 44-year-old Phyliss Wauneka, was pronounced dead at the scene, while paramedics took Antonio Wauneka, 37, to the hospital in “extremely critical” condition. He later died from his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, who wasn’t identified, was taken to the hospital “for precautionary reasons.”
