Suspect arrested for allegedly killing girlfriend in Phoenix after 11-month investigation

PHOENIX – A suspect was arrested Tuesday for allegedly killing his girlfriend in Phoenix after an 11-month investigation into the case, authorities said.

Timothy Stroble, 66, was booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

Stroble, who has multiple felony convictions on his record, is accused of killing 69-year-old Beverly Halbach at her home near the State Route 51-Loop 101 Pima Freeway interchange.

The investigation began after the suspect reported that his girlfriend wasn’t breathing on June 13, 2024.

Officers who responded to the scene found Halbach dead in a bedroom with clear signs of trauma, according to court records. They also found evidence of a struggle in the house.

Stroble denied involvement in his girlfriend’s death and implicated other possible suspects in subsequent interviews, according to the probable cause statement for his arrest.

The Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Halbach’s death a homicide, listing multiple causes, including blunt force trauma and strangulation.

The police investigation uncovered evidence contradicting Stroble’s claims, including DNA that connected him to the crime.

Halbach’s children told investigators their mother became withdrawn after she started dating Stroble, whom they described as controlling, according to the police report.

Stroble is being held on a $2 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday.
