$1,000 restitution checks from Fiat Chrysler mailed to 1,600 Arizonans

PHOENIX — About 1,600 Arizonans are set to have an extra $1,000 in their pockets as the result of a settlement involving Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram vehicles, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office announced Monday.

The payouts are the result of consumer fraud claims of deceptive marketing, selling and leasing of 2014-16 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 3.0L EcoDiesel vehicles by Fiat Chrysler.

The 2019 settlement qualified more than 2,500 Arizonans for the restitution payment of up to $1,000.

Customers who receive a check must deposit or cash it within 90 days of receiving it in the mail.

This isn’t the first time Arizonans have received restitution money from big car companies.

More than 6,700 Volkswagen consumers received $1,000 restitution checks in 2018 and 2019 after it was found the car company had been misleading the government and consumers with its “clean diesel” claims by programming its vehicles to cheat on emissions tests.

Arizonans who bought or leased certain Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche diesel models from 2008 to 2015 were eligible for restitution payments.
