1 dead, 3 injured after car gets into rollover crash while fleeing police in north Phoenix

A woman is dead and three others are seriously injured after a car rolled over while fleeing police in north Phoenix early Saturday morning, authorities said.

Officers were called to the area of 19th and Peoria avenues around 3 a.m. for reports of a person with a gun, according to the Phoenix Police Department. The caller told dispatchers that a man had pointed a gun at someone before leaving in a white Nissan Armada.

Police located the car parked nearby and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the car fled and officers did not follow.

Authorities believe that the driver lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed before rolling off the road way near Seventh and Dunlap avenues causing the four occupants to be ejected, police said.

Two 27-year-old men, a 28-year-old woman and 33-year-old woman were taken to a nearby hospital, where the 33-year-old was pronounced dead. The other three were described by the Phoenix Fire Department as being in critical condition.

The driver may have been impaired, police said.

The department’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating the fatal north Phoenix crash.
