PHOENIX — Approximately 50 members of the Phoenix Suns organization spent Thursday afternoon giving back to those in need.

Several current and former professional athletes traded jerseys for aprons and served home-cooked holiday meals to the homeless at Saint Vincent de Paul in Downtown Phoenix.

Former Suns’ center Steven Hunter said it is one of his favorite charity events of the year.

“The Phoenix community has been so supportive of our organization and our team throughout the years and we feel it’s our duty as role models to come back and give back and help our community out,” Hunter said.

More than 1,000 homeless men and women were expected to attend and get a free meal at the shelter. The event has become a yearly tradition.

“We are all here to help out the less fortunate and this is our season of giving and we are all very excited about being here yet again for another year,” Hunter said.
