Arizona ready to crack down on voter fraud

PHOENIX — Secretary of State Ken Bennett announced Tuesday that nine new cases of suspected voter fraud from the 2008 election are under investigation by the Arizona Attorney General.

Bennett said the Cross-State Match program helps states exchange voter-registration history to keep people from voting more than once in any given election.

Bennett said nine cases may not seem like a lot but Arizona has a history of close elections.

“We have had 12 elections in the past 30 years where a candidate won by a single vote,” he said.

Voting twice in the same election is a felony, which can bring up to two years in prison and a $150,000 fine.
