Deputies rescued four people from the roof of a car that was swept away by flash flooding in Yavapai County on Thursday, authorities said.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office was called to a riverbed near Dragonshead and Culpepper Ranch roads around 3:15 p.m. for reports of people stranded in rapidly rising water.
When deputies arrived at the Wet Beaver Creek crossing, they determined the vehicle had been carried 150 feet downstream by strong, fast-moving currents while four people were stranded on top of it.

They relayed the GPS coordinates to an Arizona Department of Public Safety Ranger helicopter, which successfully extracted the individuals from the roof.
On Thursday night, the flooding also caused 30 people to need to be rescued from homes in the Navajo Nation community of Dennehotso in Apache County. Additionally, several elders had to be evacuated after being stranded.
