Technical rescue crews from the Scottsdale and Phoenix fire departments are working to help a female hiker down a mountain after she was struck in the head by a falling cactus on a trail near Scottsdale on Saturday.

The incident was reported around 7:09 a.m. near the Bell Pass Trail, located close to 10400 E. Bell Road.

According to the Scottsdale Fire Department, crews hiked about two miles into steep terrain to locate the patient. Paramedic e-bike teams reached the hiker, provided medical treatment and stabilized her on the trail.

Rescuers plan to use a big wheel and a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) to take the woman off the mountain. Once she is cleared from the trail, she will be taken to a local trauma center for further evaluation.

The rescue remains active.
