Peoria dispatchers hear gunfire after caller warns of impending murder-suicide

An 86-year-old man and a 78-year-old woman were found dead inside a Peoria home Wednesday after police dispatchers heard gunfire during a 911 call, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched near 83rd Avenue and Union Hills Drive just before noon after someone called to report an impending murder-suicide.

The call stayed connected after the shots, but dispatchers heard nothing else, police said.

Officers entered the home with assistance from SWAT personnel and a drone operated through the department’s Real Time Crime Center.

Both people had what appeared to be gunshot wounds.

Police said early findings suggest both deaths may have been suicides, though detectives have not determined the circumstances.

The department’s Major Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
