Phoenix man gets 6 years in prison after 50-pound meth bust

A Phoenix man caught with about 50 pounds of methamphetamine and nearly 3,500 fentanyl pills has been sentenced to six years in prison, the Arizona Attorney General’s Office said Tuesday.

Francisco Evans-Gomez was sentenced Sept. 22.

State and federal investigators said Evans-Gomez had repeatedly moved large amounts of drugs, including tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of cocaine. The investigation involved the Attorney General’s office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Phoenix police.

Officers watched Evans-Gomez pick up a large drug shipment on April 7 and seized a bag holding about 50 pounds of meth. A search of his home turned up about a pound of cocaine, 5 ounces of heroin, nearly 3,500 fentanyl pills and six guns.

In August, he pleaded guilty to conspiracy, possession of a dangerous drug for sale and misconduct involving weapons.
