Authorities canceled a SAFE Alert on Tuesday after the subject, a 73-year-old man reported missing out of Chandler, returned home.

Danny Jerald Perkins returned home safely on his own and was reunited with his family, according to the Chandler Police Department.

When the alert was issued Tuesday, Perkins had last been seen about 7 a.m. Monday in a neighborhood near Alma School and Ray roads. He was driving a black 2009 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

He left without the medication and supplies he needed to treat his medical conditions.

Perkins is known to frequent the Sycamore Creek area of Tonto National Forest, authorities said.

SAFE Alerts have replaced Silver Alerts in Arizona as a way to spread the word about missing persons who are 65 and older and missing persons who have dementia or developmental/cognitive disabilities.
