62-year-old man dies after crashing e-bike into back of tractor-trailer in Phoenix

A 62-year-old man died Monday afternoon after crashing his electric bicycle into the back of a tractor-trailer in Phoenix, authorities said.

The truck was parked near 19th Avenue and Mountain View Road, between Dunlap and Peoria avenues, when it was hit by an e-bike about 3:30 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The truck driver felt the impact, got out of the cab and called police.

The e-bike rider, Randy Cook, was pronounced dead after first responders rushed him to a hospital.

“Preliminary indications were that the bicyclist was riding westbound on Mountain View Road when he collided with the rear of a parked semi-tractor and trailer rig,” Sgt. John Buchanan said in a media advisory.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the fatal collision.
