Arizona drivers have three new ways to customize their rides while giving back to local causes and national organizations.

The Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division announced the release of three new specialty license plates: Italian American Heritage, Kidney Disease Awareness and Suicide Prevention.

With these additions, ADOT now offers 107 specialty plate options, available to view and purchase online.

“Specialty license plates offer a fun way to customize your vehicle and show your support for one of these uniquely Arizona organizations,” MVD Director Michael Cryderman said in a release. “MVD is pleased to support Arizona communities through the various plates for the organizations dedicated to helping Arizona and our communities.”

Most specialty options cost $25 per year, with $17 from each purchase directed toward a designated charity or nonprofit.

During the fiscal year that ended June 30, specialty plate sales generated more than $15.8 million for Arizona causes.

First authorized by state lawmakers in 1989, specialty plates undergo review by both ADOT and law enforcement prior to release. Drivers can also add custom text to their plates for an additional $25 annually.

Alongside the new designs, ADOT refreshed existing plates for the University of Phoenix and Arizona PBS (formerly Channel 8 PBS). Both refreshed designs, along with the three new causes, are also available in motorcycle plate formats.

Italian American Heritage: Proceeds from this plate go to the National Italian American Foundation, supporting scholarships, grants and heritage travel programs.

“This plate is more than a way to customize your vehicle — it connects Arizona drivers to a community of more than 20 million Italian Americans across the country and to the enduring values of Italian culture that have shaped American life for generations,” NIAF President and CEO Robert Allegrini said.

Kidney Disease Awareness: The National Kidney Foundation of Arizona receives $17 from each sale to fund patient assistance, community education and statewide advocacy efforts.

“Every plate purchased helps provide hope, education, patient support services and life-saving resources to individuals navigating some of the most difficult moments of their lives,” NKF of Arizona CEO Leslie McReynolds said.

Suicide Prevention: Sales from the Suicide Prevention plate support mental health resources and crisis services statewide. The plate highlights the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which offers 24/7 support via call or text.

“Every plate on the road is an opportunity to remind people that help is available 24/7,” Solari CEO Justin Chase said. “Whether someone is experiencing a mental health crisis, emotional distress, or simply needs someone to talk to, support is just a call or text away.”
