Valley’s first permanent outdoor Ferris wheel opens at Arizona Boardwalk

The Boardwalk Big Wheel opened at the Arizona Boardwalk Monday as part of its 10th anniversary celebration, becoming the first permanent outdoor Ferris wheel in the Valley.

The new attraction stands 80 feet tall, with 18 fully enclosed, climate-controlled gondolas that can fit up to six guests. The trip around the Ferris wheel offers a 360-degree view of McDowell, Black, Mummy, Four Peaks and Camelback Mountains, with onboard music and LED lighting that illuminates the ride at night.

“The Boardwalk Big Wheel was designed to bring families and friends together, creating unforgettable moments while adding an exciting new element to every Arizona Boardwalk visit,” Ran Knishinsky, managing partner at Arizona Boardwalk, said in a news release. “Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion, enjoying a family outing or simply taking in the incredible Arizona scenery, this attraction offers a one-of-a-kind experience unlike anything else in the Valley.”

The Arizona Boardwalk has 10 different attractions, and the Ferris wheel uniquely has almost 200 boardwalk team members’ signatures on the steel panels used to build it.

How much does it cost to ride the Arizona Boardwalk’s Ferris wheel?

Guests can buy single rides on the Boardwalk Big Wheel or they can purchase different combinations that include rides.

Here is a breakdown:

• The first rider is $9
• Each additional guest in the same gondola is $6
• All-Day Pass: Enjoy unlimited rides for the day for $20
• Combo ticket: Guests can save 40% by bundling the Boardwalk Big Wheel with other attractions

The combo ticket includes two rides on the Ferris wheel. Annual passholders for the OdySea Aquarium and Butterfly Wonderland can also upgrade their memberships for $20 to get unlimited rides for a full year.
