Parents accused of walking kids in extreme heat while intoxicated after Cardinals training camp

Two parents were arrested on child abuse charges after police say they walked their young children through extreme heat for hours while drunk near State Farm Stadium.

Ryan Mullin and May Mullin were arrested on child abuse charges, with Ryan Mullin also facing three counts of disorderly conduct.

May Mullin told officers the family had been walking for about three hours after leaving a Cardinals game and that the children had consumed two bottles of water during that time.

The outside temperature was hovering around 110 degrees, according to a police report.

Glendale police responded around 6 p.m. Sunday to an area on Montebello Avenue, nearly two miles from State Farm Stadium.

A witness told police she saw Ryan Mullin stumbling and appearing extremely intoxicated, falling into the roadway, and that May Mullin appeared to be vomiting.

The witness said she offered the family a ride out of the heat, but Ryan Mullin became angry and punched her vehicle. He was so intoxicated, according to the police report, that he fell into her car, hitting his face.

An officer who caught up with Ryan Mullin said he had blood on his face and shirt and was unsteady on his feet. Police said he refused to release the child and resisted being handcuffed.

A family member picked up the children and police notified the Department of Child Services.
