Southbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway reopens in Scottsdale after fiery crash

A pickup truck struck a median wall and caught fire near Via de Ventura on Thursday morning, seriously injuring the driver.

Thursday morning’s commute on the Loop 101 Pima Freeway was disrupted by a fiery crash in Scottsdale, authorities said.

Southbound Loop 101 was temporarily closed at Via de Ventura after one person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle collision shortly before 4 a.m., according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

A pickup truck struck a median wall before coming to a stop in the HOV lane and catching fire, DPS said.

Scottsdale Fire Department crews put out the fire and took the driver to a hospital.

Southbound Loop 101 was closed at Via de Ventura for several hours. The freeway reopened about 7:15 a.m.
