A 68-year-old man was killed in a crash in west Phoenix on Sunday after his vehicle collided head-on with a semitrailer, police said.

Marshall Craig Davis was driving near 71st Avenue and Buckeye Road just before 11 a.m. when he drifted into the oncoming traffic and struck one of two semitrailers, according to the Phoenix Police Department.

The force of the initial crash pushed the first semitrailer into a second, sending it off the road.

Firefighters pulled Davis from his vehicle and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Neither semitrailer driver was injured, and both stayed at the scene of the crash.

The Phoenix Police Vehicular Crimes Unit is investigating.

What caused Davis to cross into oncoming traffic is part of the ongoing investigation, said police.
