Waymo launching invitation-only membership with exclusive perks for select Phoenix riders

Valley autonomous ride-hailing users who heavily rely on driverless trips may soon get an exclusive upgrade.

Waymo announced it is launching “Waymo Premier,” an invite-only monthly membership program tailored for its most frequent riders. Phoenix is one of just three initial launch markets for the service, alongside San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The membership will cost $29.99 per month.

What will Waymo Premier customers receive?

Subscribers will receive priority pickups during high-demand hours, up to five free cancellations per month, early access to new service areas as the company expands and 10% back in Waymo Cash on every ride, with higher return rates during peak hours.

Company officials said the subscription service was designed around direct feedback from frequent passengers.

For some local commuters, the premium tier bridges a gap in daily transportation needs.

“I never got my driver’s license, and I rely on Waymo to commute to an office every day,” Phoenix rider Sarah Paige Roland said in a release. “I get privacy, time back, a safe ride and I’m not obligated to talk to someone that I don’t want to talk to. Adding cash back and priority pickups on top of that makes Premier a no-brainer for someone like me.”

The rollout comes as the Alphabet-owned company continues to scale its presence in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Waymo One launched in the East Valley in October 2022, with its current commercial service area spanning across Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa and Chandler.

Existing riders can check for eligibility and invitations directly within the Waymo mobile app. Company officials noted the program will eventually expand to additional cities where the app operates.
