Five freeway projects squeeze Phoenix traffic into tight detours this weekend
Five freeway closures on SR 51, Loop 202, I-17 and Loop 101 will squeeze Phoenix traffic from Friday night through Monday morning, ADOT says.

Five construction projects will close or squeeze lanes on State Route 51, Loop 202 Santan Freeway, Interstate 17, and Loop 101 Pima and Price freeways this weekend, the Arizona Department of Transportation said.
The traffic authority broke down the different closures in its weekend travel advisory.
There are five Phoenix-area freeway closures this weekend. Among them:

SR 51 southbound shuts down again for pavement work through Monday
Southbound SR 51 closes between Indian School Road and Interstate 10 from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for an ongoing pavement improvement project.
Southbound on-ramps will be closed at Glendale Avenue, Bethany Home Road and Highland Avenue. Consider taking Seventh or 24th streets to reach I-10 and Loop 202.
A widening project sparks multiple freeway closures
Eastbound Loop 202 Santan Freeway closes between Price Road and Arizona Avenue from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for a widening project.”
Additionally, southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway ramps to eastbound Loop 202 will be closed for the project.
Alternative routes include Chandler Boulevard and Germann Road.
I-17 sign work shuts down northbound lanes through the weekend
Overhead sign maintenance shuts down northbound I-17 between Cactus and Union Hills roads from 11 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday.
Northbound I-17 on-ramps are closed at Dunlap and Peoria avenues. Access from I-17 to east- and westbound Loop 101 will be unavailable during the closure.
Traffic can use the northbound frontage road and re-enter via Union Hills Road. Drivers may consider exiting ahead of the closure and using 19th or 35th avenues to access Loop 101.
Loop 101 has back-to-back closures on both the Price and Pima freeways
Southbound Loop 101 Price Freeway closes between Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway and US 60 from 9 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday for pavement repairs.
Drivers can use the westbound Loop 202 to southbound SR 143, eastbound I-10 and eastbound US 60 to get around the construction.
Northbound Loop 101 Price Freeway will also be closed between US 60 and Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway from 9 p.m. Saturday to 2 p.m. Sunday for pavement repairs.
The best way around the closures is westbound US 60 to westbound I-10, northbound SR 143 and eastbound Loop 202.
In the northeast Valley, northbound Loop 101 Pima Freeway is narrowed to two lanes between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for pavement improvements.
Expect on- and off-ramp closures at times.
