Bees sting 8 hikers, sending 1 to hospital, at Camelback Mountain in Phoenix

A swarm of bees stung multiple hikers on Camelback Mountain in Phoenix on Tuesday morning, sending one person to a hospital, officials said.

As of noon, all of Camelback Mountain was closed as a precaution while a bee specialist assessed the situation.

Rescue crews were deployed to the Cholla and Echo Canyon trails after calls about aggressive bees started coming in around 9:15 a.m., according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

With help from a drone and a Phoenix Police Department helicopter, firefighters located eight bee sting victims and walked them down to the trailhead.

One of the patients was taken to a hospital for additional evaluation. All of the victims are considered stable, officials said.

Last month, bees stung a hiker more than 100 times on Lookout Mountain in Phoenix.
