DEA agent involved in shooting on Tucson’s south side

PHOENIX — A Drug Enforcement Administration agent was involved in a shooting Monday on Tucson’s south side, authorities said.

The shooting occurred around 1:30 p.m. near Campbell Avenue and Irvington Road while agents were conducting a narcotics operation, a spokesperson with the DEA said. Both suspects are in custody and the scene is secure, with no danger to the public.

A witness told KOLD News that one suspect fled into a nearby saloon after the shooting and asked for help.

The suspect then ran from the bar, got into a separate vehicle and left, the witness said, leaving behind what they described as a “bullet-ridden vehicle” in the parking lot.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department was also on scene but said the FBI is handling the investigation, reported KOLD.

The DEA’s Phoenix Field Division declined to provide additional details. Special Agent Joshua Boyer told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the situation remained fluid and that no further information was available.
