Glendale closing Thunderbird Park trailheads temporarily for improvement project

PHOENIX — Starting next week, the city of Glendale will be temporarily closing trailheads at Thunderbird Conservation Park for an improvement project.

The closures begin Monday, April 6, and will impact one trailhead at a time. According to the city, all trails will remain open during construction.

The 59th Avenue trailhead, between Deer Valley and Pinnacle Peak roads, will be the first to close for improvements. They are expected to be completed in December of this year.

The enhancements being made to the trailheads include adding shade structures, news restrooms, historical and environmental signage, paving parking areas and planting new native plants.

The 55th Avenue trailhead is scheduled to be closed for improvements from August of this year to February 2027. The 67th Avenue trailhead will be the last to close for construction from January 2027 through August 2027.

Glendale’s Thunderbird Conservation Park has approximately 15 miles of multi-use trail that has been developed through volunteer efforts.
