Water conservation measures implemented at Grand Canyon South Rim after pipeline break

PHOENIX — Grand Canyon National Park implemented water conservation measures at the South Rim on Monday after a pipeline break.

Park officials said the break in the pipeline is along the North Kaibab Trail and it is preventing water from being pumped to South Rim.

The national park is asking that all residents and visitors conserve and reduce water usage in their homes, hotel rooms and campgrounds.

The water conservation measures include:

• Flushing the toilet less
• Only running dishwashers and washing machines when they’re full or in eco-mode
• Taking shorter showers and turning off sinks while brushing teeth or shaving
• Reporting and fixing any leaks or other sources of water loss
• Washing vehicles with only reclaimed water

Park officials said that crews are actively working to repair the break.
