PHOENIX — The city of Peoria announced Wednesday it’s launching a new on-demand public transportation service that will launch next month.

Beginning on April 1, Peoria Transit will launch a new service that will allow riders to request rides when needed instead of following a fixed route or schedule. With the launch of the new service, Peoria will be discontinuing its WeRide program on April 13, according to a Wednesday news release.

The new service will be available to the general public, seniors and people with disabilities throughout the city. The Peoria service also extends to select medical and essential facilities in areas such as Glendale and Sun City.

Riders interested in using the new service must complete a one-time registration process by calling 623-773-7433.

Service hours for the general public and American Disability Act (ADA) riders go from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. ADA-certified riders can book rides on Saturday and Sunday by reservation only, which must be made by 5 p.m. Friday.

As part of the service, riders can expect vehicles to arrive within 30 minutes of a request. Riders can book rides through the Peoria Transit mobile app, online passenger portal or by calling 623-773-7435.

How much does a ride through the new Peoria transportation service cost?

A single ride for adults ages 16-64 costs $3, while children ages 6-15 and seniors over 65 can ride for $1.50. Children under 5 can ride for free. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult while using the service.

Non-ADA riders with disabilities can book rides for $1.50, while ADA-certified riders can ride for $1.

More information on the new transportation service can be found online.
