SB State Route 51 fully reopens without restrictions after weekend paving work

PHOENIX — Southbound State Route 51 between Cactus Road and Northern Avenue fully reopened without restrictions Monday morning.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said Sunday there would be restrictions south of 32nd Street when the freeway reopened after weekend work on a pavement improvement project. But by the next morning, ADOT said those restrictions would not be required.

Crews removed a layer of worn asphalt along a section of southbound SR 51 as work began on the $17.8 million project.

ADOT expects the pavement project along a 10-mile stretch of SR 51 between the Interstate 10 “Mini-Stack” interchange and Shea Boulevard to be completed in the fall.

In addition to the occasional weekend closure, the work will require weeknight lane and ramp restrictions or closures in the coming months.
