Arizona man found guilty in shooting that killed 1, wounded 2 others

PHOENIX — A federal judge recently found a 45-year-old Arizona man guilty of several crimes, including one count of second-degree murder, for a 2024 robbery.

Derick Lee Myron, who is from Tuba City, was found guilty of murder as well as the following crimes after an eight-day jury trial:

• Three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon
• One count of robbery
• Two counts of assault resulting in serious bodily injury
• Four counts of discharging a firearm during and in relationship to a crime

The crimes took place on April 29, 2024, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona.

On that day, Myron shot three people, one of whom died, on the Navajo Nation Indian Reservation, prosecutors said.

After that, he allegedly stole a truck, ran over the victim he had killed and drove away from the crime scene before disposing of the truck in a canyon in Cameron, which is about 43 miles southeast of the Grand Canyon’s North Rim.

Prosecutors said he spent the following two days evading arrest by hiding in the Moenkopi Wash and hiding the firearm he used to shoot the victims.

A second-degree murder conviction carries a maximum penalty of life in prison, a $250,000 fine and no more than five years of supervised release.
