Grand Canyon facilities reopen with restrictions after water repairs

PHOENIX — Grand Canyon National Park announced that repairs have been successfully completed on three inner canyon pipes that had forced the closure of Phantom Ranch Canteen lodge and other nearby facilities.

The pipeline breaks had also shut down water service to Boat Beach, Bright Angel Campground and the Delta restrooms, which are located along the North Kaibab Trail, a 14-mile trail that runs from the canyon’s North Rim to the Colorado River.

The park said full service is expected to return Friday and the lodge is set to reopen to guests on Saturday.

With the trio of pipes excavated and restored, the Transcanyon Waterline is also being repressurized, according to a park newsletter.

Residents and staff are advised to continue to watch their water use, as the park is in Stage 2 water restrictions, where “non-essential water use” should be limited before operations return to normalcy.

For those planning a weekend trip to Phantom Ranch, rain showers are likely (70%) on Saturday, with a forecasted high of 55 degrees, while there is a slight chance of snow (20%) into Sunday morning. Sunny conditions and a high of 56 degrees are expected for Sunday.
