Injured man rescued hours after crashing ATV into northern Arizona wash

PHOENIX — A 49-year-old man crashed his ATV in northern Arizona earlier this week and wasn’t rescued until hours later, authorities said.

According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office (YCSO), it received a call around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday about a missing rider who hadn’t returned from a morning quad ride.

The caller told authorities that the man had left his home in Spring Valley at 6 a.m. for a trip that was supposed to be less than an hour and hadn’t been heard from since.

YCSO Forest Patrol and Yavapai Search and Rescue teams began searching for the man and found him at the bottom of a wash not far from his home just before 5:30 p.m.

The man was alert and conscious but unable to walk or climb out on his own due to his injuries, YCSO said.

The Mayer Fire Department extracted the man from the wash before he was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated.
