What road closures should Tempe, Scottsdale drivers expect for Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon event?

PHOENIX — Drivers will have runners to account for when traveling through Tempe and Scottsdale this weekend, as the Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona event warrants a number of road closures.

The event offers three options to participants: a half-marathon or 10K on Saturday and a 5K on Sunday, with each finishing at Tempe Beach Park.

In addition to bus and streetcar restrictions, the following closures will be in place:

Closures in Tempe, Scottsdale for Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona running event

Rio Salado Parkway will be closed in both directions between Ash and Mill avenues beginning at 4 a.m. Saturday and lasting until well after the event’s conclusion on Monday at 4 p.m.

The following streets will also be closed starting at 4 a.m. Saturday before reopening at 10 a.m. later that morning:

• Mill Avenue in both directions between Washington Street/Curry Road and Rio Salado Parkway
• Lakeview Drive in both directions south of Washington Street/Curry Road
• Southbound College Avenue between Curry Road and Gilbert Drive
• Eastbound Curry Road between Washington Street and College Avenue.

In addition, these streets will be closed on Sunday from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m.:

• Northbound Mill Avenue/Van Buren Street between University Drive and Curry Road; business access will remain open north of University Drive, and one lane will remain open to provide access to Rolling Hills Golf Course and the Phoenix Zoo
• Southbound Mill Avenue/Van Buren Street between the Phoenix city limit and University Drive
• Fifth Street in both directions between Maple and Myrtle avenues
• Hardy Drive and Rio Salado Parkway; traffic will be forced onto westbound Rio Salado Parkway except for those accessing Tempe Center for the Arts
• Rio Salado Parkway in both directions between Hardy Drive and Ash Avenue
• Lakeview Drive in both directions at both ends at Washington Street
• Washington Street in both directions between Center Parkway and Mill Avenue/Van Buren Street
• Center Parkway in both directions between Priest Drive and Van Buren Street/Mill Avenue
• Westbound Curry Road at College Avenue.
