Police are investigating a downtown Phoenix shooting that left a man dead Thursday morning, authorities said.

PHOENIX — Police are investigating a downtown Phoenix shooting that left a man dead Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Ninth Avenue and Van Buren Street around 8:25 a.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they found an adult man suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

The Phoenix Fire Department took the man to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said that another man was detained at the scene before being taken to Phoenix police headquarters.

The man was interviewed and released pending further investigation into the fatal downtown Phoenix shooting, according to police.

The identity of the deceased man and his age were not released.
