PHOENIX — A homicide investigation is underway after a woman’s body was found in west Phoenix early Thursday morning.
Officers with the Phoenix Police Department responded to reports of an injured person near 67th Avenue and Highland Avenue around 1:45 a.m.
They found the victim, 34-year-old Mariela G. Duarte Gaxiola, with a gunshot wound lying on the frontage roadway. The Phoenix Fire Department pronounced her dead after arriving on the scene.
Detectives then arrived to process the scene. They’re asking anyone with information that can help them find out what happened to Gaxiola to call police.
