Person of interest in case of missing Avondale woman taken into custody

The man identified as a person of interest in the search for Isabella Comas has been taken into custody on charges related to the case.

PHOENIX — The man identified by police as a person of interest in the search for missing Avondale woman Isabella Comas has been taken into custody on charges related to the case.

The Avondale Police Department revealed Thursday it spoke with Tommy Rodriguez, 39, a romantic partner of Comas, and that he is considered a person of interest in the case.

The department added that Rodriguez was taken into custody on Wednesday. He was booked into jail on charges of auto theft, criminal damage and violating probation, according to jail records.

The theft and criminal damage charges were related to Comas’ car, according to ABC15.

Rodriguez is being held on a $50,000 secured bond.

Additionally, court records obtained by ABC15 showed that Rodriguez has a lengthy criminal history. He previously served over a decade in prison for second-degree murder and pleaded guilty in 2020 to stalking after he threatened an ex-girlfriend with multiple weapons, including a machete and a hammer.

Comas, 21, was last seen by a friend near Van Buren Street and Avondale Boulevard around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities issued a Turquoise Alert for Comas on Tuesday.

Police previously said Comas was on her way to visit her boyfriend in the area of 91st Avenue and Indian School Road in Phoenix when she was last seen.

A friend notified police after Comas didn’t arrive to pick her up from work, as usual. Comas also did not show up for work on Monday and could not be reached by phone, police added.

After tracking Comas’ cellphone, police located it on Monday at a recycling center in Phoenix. Her car was located on Tuesday night near 67th Avenue and Indian School Road.

Comas is described as 5 feet, 3 inches tall and 110 pounds. She is Hispanic and has pink hair and brown eyes.

Comas was last seen wearing a white shirt with a black logo on the front, blue pants with a white line going down the side and possibly sandals.

Anyone who may have information about Comas’ whereabouts is asked to contact the Avondale Police Department at 623-333-7001 or call 911.

“We greatly appreciate the community’s ongoing support and encourage anyone with information to continue responding to her Turquoise Alert. The tips received so far have been extremely helpful in moving this case forward,” Officer Jaret Redfearn said in a media advisory Thursday.

Turquoise Alerts are issued when a missing person is under the age of 65, local law enforcement has exhausted all available resources, the person is believed to be in danger or in the company of someone potentially dangerous and the circumstances surrounding the disappearance are unexplained or suspicious.
