PHOENIX – A death investigation is underway after a semitruck ran over a man who was lying down in an east Phoenix parking lot early Monday, authorities said.
The incident occurred near 44th and Van Buren streets around 3:10 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
The victim, identified later as 23-year-old Martin Toledo Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver showed no signs of impairment, police said.
“Preliminary information indicates the adult male was lying down in a low-lit area in the parking lot when he was run over by the semitruck, which was circling through the parking lot attempting to exit onto 44th Street,” Sgt. Lorraine Fernandez said in a media advisory.
No other details were immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
